Today we had Apples for snack. They had a sticker (not a snicker Mr. Hill!) on them that said they were from New Zealand. We didn’t know where that was, so we looked it up on google maps. We found out that New Zealand is 22 hours away from St. Louis by plane. That’s 2 hours less than a full day!
Here’s a map of New Zealand just in case you were interested.
Where did you get your apples from? Do you know where they were grown?
Send us a map of where your apples were grown and we will send you a song about appels!
Thanks for your help!
Love,
The Hill Turtles

If there was a fire at our school. The closest Fire Station is 2.4 miles away. It would take the fire truck 7 minutes to drive here,
If the firemen wanted to get on the bus with their hoses, helmets, axes and ladders, it would take them 17 minutes to get here.
If the firemen wanted to walk here with their hoses, helmets, axes and ladders, it would take them 46 minutes to walk here.
If the firemen wanted to get on bikes, which we call “firebikes”, with their hoses, helmets, axes, and ladders, it would take them 47 minutes.
How long would it take fore a fire engine to get to your school?
Please send us 3 ways, and attatch a google map showing the route.
If you do this first, we’re going to send you a cool picture of our “beach”, which has a nintendo wii and a full case of new books.
Here are our vocabulary sentences for this week. If you’d like, create your own sentences with the words in bold. If you write us 5 new sentences, we will send you a surprise song.
1.) The doctor helps to heal Mr. Hill when he has a broken leg.
2.) I have personal space, will you please respect that?!
3.) I have a broken leg, so I laid on the couch.
4.) Joseph informs his brother that he is not a genius.
5.) I am very serious; you need to step back!

We have S.W.A.G., do you?
This week we’re talking about the emergency room. The emergency room is in the hospital. We wanted to know where and how far the closest hospital was. The closest hospital is called Barnes Jewish Hospital. It is on Kingshighway in St. Louis near Forrest Park.
We live in the neighborhood Walnut Park. If we wanted to go to the hospital, we would need directions. Here is the google map for our journey to the hospital.
By car it would take 15 minutes to travel 4.6 miles to the hospital from our school.
By bus it would take 37 minutes to travel the 4.6 miles.
Walking, it would take 1 hour and 31 minutes to get there.
And by bicycle, it would take 28 minutes.
Could you please send us the closest hospital to you? Also, tell us how long it would take to get there by at least 2 modes of transportation.
The first person to send us a map of the directions to their hospital will get a cool picture we draw in art class with Mr. Rickert. Believe us, it’s going to be really really really awesome!
